The new dog owner's guide to picking a dog leash

The dog leash is the dog's life leash, this is the truth. Because dogs are easily affected by unfamiliar environments when they go out, and dangerous situations arise. For example, the dog is frightened by the whistle or fights with other dogs.

For novices, how to choose the right dog leash is also a difficult problem. There are many types and complex functions. It is difficult to choose which one is easy to use.

Here is a summary of the advantages and disadvantages of a various dog leashes. I believe that after reading this article, the novice shoveling officer knows how to choose the right dog leash.

1. What needs to pay attention to buy the dog leash

Maybe you think, isn’t it just a leash to hold the dog? Just pick one. Actually not, the material, length, width, buckle and function of the traction rope have their own considerations. Picking a suitable leash is an essential skill for a qualified dog owner.

2. Material, generally divided into four types

(1) Nylon:The advantage is that it is durable and cheap. And there are many styles and patterns, which is suitable for dog owners who are looking for beauty and personalization. The disadvantage is that it is not bite-resistant enough, so it is usually used when walking the dog, and it must be unlocked in time when you return home.

(2) Leather: The advantage is that the more you use it, the more comfortable it is. The ductility of the leather makes the surface smoother and more suitable for your hand shape. The disadvantage is that it is expensive and needs to be taken care of from time to time, so you can keep comfortable by getting an oil treatment.

(3)Metal: The advantage is that it is durable, super resistant and bite resistant, especially suitable for dogs who like to bite the leash. The disadvantage is that it is too heavy, especially for small dogs. It is also tiring to walk the dog for a long time. Some of the bad quality is easy to rust, and if the dog keeps biting, it is easy to hurt their teeth. Therefore, metal chains are generally recommended for large dogs, or for keeping dogs at home.

(4) Polyester: The characteristic is good breathability and moisture removal. There is also strong resistance to acids and alkalis, and UV resistance. The disadvantage is that the dyeability is poor, and the color of the pattern is not so bright.

3. Style

(1)Basic: This is the most common and simple style, which is a nylon leash and a hook. Daily dog walking or training are suitable. The length is fixed and not adjustable, generally between 1-2 meters. The most suitable length is about 1.5 meters, which can basically meet the dog's activity needs, and it is not too long, and the dog can be controlled at any time.

(2)Adjustable: This is on the optimization of the basic models. The length is also 1-2 meters, the length of the rope can be adjusted at will. It can be adjusted to a short rope in a crowded place, and can be adjusted to a long rope in a safe place. You can also adjust the appropriate length according to your height, which is very practical.

(3)The retractable leash: The telescopic traction is generally more than 3 meters in length. This kind of tape measure dog leash can be freely changed in length with the dog's range of movement. The range of activities for dogs is relatively wide, the appearance is high, and the sense of technology is relatively high.

4. Choice of length, width, hook

(1) leashs length

Short leash: The length is generally within 1 meter or even shorter. It is often referred to as the "City Leash". It is more practical in crowded cities with more people.

Standard length: Generally between 1.5 meters and 2 meters, it is freely controlled and has sufficient range of motion. It is the most common length used.

Long section: Generally above 3 meters, it is mainly used to increase the dog's range of motion and training dogs.

Different scenarios using different lengths of leash.

(2) Leashs width

Small dogs: within 20 kg, generally leash 1.5cm wide

Medium-sized dog :20-60 kg, leash 2cm wide

Large dogs : 60 kg to 100 kg or more, with a leash width of 2.5cm and above

This is a rough reference range. The wider the width, the greater the tensile force. Try not to choose too thin rope.

(3) Leashs hook

The dog buckle should choose a better metal material as far as possible, and the plastic dog buckle is easy to break.

This is the most common type. There is a small spring in the buckle, which can be opened by pressing down, and can be closed by loosening.

This kind of  buckle also uses springs, but the springs are thicker, stronger, better elasticity and generally have a longer service life.

The above are the aspects that need to be considered when choosing a dog leash, here is a warm reminder:

Towing rope of any material generally needs to be replaced after 1-2 years. When buying, please make sure to choose the one that suits the current and few months later.

Buy more leashes for spare. One leash is used once and then replaced with another, so that the rope has a longer service life. And it can also prevent the situation that there is no way to walk the dog in time after the rope suddenly breaks.

Improper use of dog collars can cause these 5 major hazards

The dog’s neck is a relatively weak place. When you pull the collar closer, the stimulus to the dog’s neck can well control the dog’s behavior.  However, improper use of the collar has a great hidden danger, which will endanger the dog’s life and safety. 1. Cause the dog to breathe If the dog’s collar is tightly fastened, the dog’s trachea will be compressed, resulting in poor breathing. If the dog is more naughty and pulls you forward, it will further oppress the trachea, which is prone to danger. If the dog runs around with a collar all the time, and accidentally gets caught by other things, it may also cause suffocation.  2. Affect blood transport Dog collars should not be worn for a long time. Dogs have arteries and veins in their necks. Long-term wearing will affect blood circulation. Insufficient blood supply to the brain leads to slow cell metabolism, resulting in damage to the dog's body functions.  3. Cause muscle strain When ...

Nowadays, some people keep dogs purely to look at their appearance.
